RII60309 Advanced Diploma of Underground Coal Mining Management
The Advanced Diploma of Underground Coal Mining Management covers the role of mine managers who perform tasks that are broad, specialised, complex and technical and include strategic areas and initiating activities. They are required to demonstrate self-directed application of theoretical and technical knowledge and initiate solutions to technical problems or management requirements.
Successful completion of eleven (11) units of competency made up of:
- nine (9) mandatory units of competency
- three (3) elective units
Mandatory
Individuals can select to complete either RIIBLA302A OR RIIBLA202A
Note: RIIBLA302A is mandatory in NSW
Note: RIIBLA202A is the minimum requirement in QLD

- RIIMCU601A Establish and maintain the spontaneous combustion management plan
- RIIMCU602A Establish and maintain the gas management system
- RIIMCU606A Establish and maintain the mining method and strata management systems
- RIIRAI603A Establish and maintain mine transport systems and production equipment
- RIIRAI604A Establish and maintain mine services and infrastructure systems
- RIIRIS601A Establish and maintain the risk management system
- RIIUND601A Establish and maintain the ventilation management system
- RIIBLA202A Support underground shotfiring operations
- RIIBLA302A Conduct shotfiring operations in underground coal mines
Elective
- RIIMCU603A Establish and maintain the gas drainage management plan
- RIIMCU604A Establish and maintain the outburst management plan
- RIIMCU605A Establish and maintain the inrush management plan
- RIIOHS601A Establish and maintain the OHS management system
- RIIOHS602A Incorporate health and hygiene factors into mine management
- RIIUND603A Manage, operate and maintain the mine ventilation system
We recommend that persons commence with RIIRIS601A Establish and maintain the risk management system and move onto RIIUND603A Manage, operate and maintain the mine ventilation system as we have mapped that competency so when that unit is finished a candidate has one elective and three mandatory units completed.
Ventilation Officer Course

Unit Descriptor
This unit covers the functions to be performed by the Ventilation Officer or other person appointed for the purpose, to manage, contribute to the development of, to operate and to maintain the mine ventilation system.
OH&S Management System Course
Unit Descriptor
This unit covers the establishment and management of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System in a mining organisation. Its application is to ensure the workplace is, so far as is reasonably achievable, safe and without risks to the health of employees. The safety system may also be known as the Safety and Health Management System.
RIIOHS601A Establish and Maintain the OH&S Management System, an elective unit required by a senior person within the Management Structure for a coal mine. This unit covers the establishment and management of the OH&S management system in a mining organisation. Its application is to ensure the workplace is, so far as is reasonably achievable, safe without risks to the health of employees.
RIIRIS601A Establish the risk management system
Unit Descriptor
This unit covers the actions taken to lead, manage and coordinate the risk management system for a mine.
We deliver this course in three workshops each two days in length a week apart.
